This
former gold rush town is now a favorite of those who enjoy strolling
through antique shops and coffee houses. Its main industry is
tourism. It is also the El Dorado County seat and government center.
The surrounding hillsides contain some lovely Victorian homes and
picturesque cottages. Larger parcels of property are favorites
of the "city folk" who commute down to Sacramento or to Folsom's high tech
industry. There are also some small subdivisions of new homes
looking a little out of place at times. There is still time to
purchase land and build the foothill home of your dreams here. Land
prices are very reasonable and the countryside is beautiful.
Placerville
is near the forests and lakes and has many hiking and biking trails within
its area. The fall colors are especially pretty here.
Placerville is host to lively jazz festivals, antique car shows and open
air markets. The country side has road side stands where you can purchase
fresh fruits and vegetables.
The outdoor life offers hiking, biking, white water rafting, fishing,
and boating. Placerville is on Highway 50 between Sacramento
and South Lake Tahoe. You can enjoy skiing in world class ski
resorts and come home to sleep in your own bed at night.
Placerville is an incorporated community with a five member council.
The City Hall is at 487 Main Street, Placerville.
