Foresthill
sits about 20 miles east of Auburn and is a collection of vintage
buildings and contemporary homes on a road leading to a variety of
recreational opportunities.
Its main street reaches beyond the old business district, turning into
slim strands of roadway that tie to alpine lakes, remote campgrounds, and
wilderness areas.
The township is at about 3,200 feet above sea level. The main industry
is tourism. Foresthill is the gateway to hunting, fishing,
off-road vehicle trails, campgrounds, cross country wonderlands, picnic
areas, nature hikes and even the northernmost native grove of Sierra Big
Trees. One of the newest recreational facilities is the China Wall
staging area, a starting point for off-road vehicles in the summer and
snowmobiles and cross-country skiers in the winter.
There are two 100 mile endurance races: In June, Western States
Endurance Run that is for human beings and the Tevis Cup (in July) that is
a test of stamina for horses and riders. Both contests originate in
Squaw Valley and follow a cross-country path through the Foresthill
Divide.
Modern schools, community park, museum and recreational leagues have
become a part of the community. People seeking homes with large lots
under the pines will enjoy the lifestyle in Foresthill.
